Prioritizing natural beauty, glowing skin, simplicity, and comfort, Julie believes make-up should be an empowered experience for women both on and off-camera, at home or on-the-road.
As the go-to make-up artist for leading ladies like Bryce Dallas Howard, Ricki Lake, Chelsea Handler, and Giada De Laurentiis, Julie has traveled the globe getting her loyal clients camera-ready. Through her impressive career in television, editorial, and advertising, she’s established a trusted reputation for giving women the best versions of themselves. Whether she’s running around on location in Italy or Hawaii, braving the kitchen heat for a Food Network show, or prepping a star for a major red-carpet moment, Julie’s magic begins with the calm, light energy and sense of humor she always brings to set.
Julie’s star clients love to wear her make-up long after the director calls cut. And her ability to conjure up a total hair and make-up look in a pinch is well documented. Often tapped for her ingenious beauty solutions, clever travel tricks, and product recommendations, she has been featured on national television and in leading publications, and is a regular contributor to Glamour Magazine, Giadzy, and Salt & Wind.
Bringing together her passion for adventure, her knack for effortless, on-the-go beauty, and her entrepreneurial savvy, Julie has created Foxyfleet to better share her expertise. FoxyFleet.com will take readers behind-the-scenes on Julie’s globe-trotting adventures, showing them how she makes the most of whirlwind work trips while staying confident in her beauty game.
Julie developed her flair for low-maintenance, high-confidence looks intuitively. Though she wasn’t allowed to wear make-up growing up, she had always been told she would make an excellent make-up artist. She could often be found painting and drawing, and loved working with her hands. And being the eldest of 7 children, she learned early on how to take care of others and be the calm in the storm.
After college, Julie moved to New York and started working in the restaurant industry. She wanted to do something more creative, but wasn’t sure what. Then, a friend of her mother’s who worked with Estée Lauder invited her to meet the Lauder team at the opening of a new Bloomingdales. Julie sat down for an interview and was hired on the spot.
Without any formal training, Julie quickly discovered her innate talent by listening closely to the desires and needs of each woman who sat in her chair. Soon she was working at Fashion Week with Bobbi Brown, whose natural approach to cosmetics provided a welcome home for Julie’s own style.
While as a make-up artist and hair stylist Julie is self-taught, she counts many iconic women among her career mentors. After working closely with Bobbi Brown as one of her top artists for many years, she landed her first regular television gig with Ricki Lake. She has worked with superstar chef Giada De Laurentiis since her Food Network debut, and also counts Mariel Hemingway and Sophie Dahl among the clients who have inspired and guided her.
With Foxyfleet, Julie aims to pass on what she’s learned. Along with being a fresh beauty and travel resource, she plans to create a space where aspiring make-up artists can find guidance, while providing a platform to help launch their careers. Also soon-to-come is a curated shop of Julie’s hand-picked, head-to-toe beauty and lifestyle buys, plus her first innovative double-duty product to be launched in 2016.
